Welcome to the Camco Clean Energy media centre.
The week that was: Reflections on Africa Energy Forum 2019
With AEF 2019 drawing to a close in Lisbon, it is clear that renewables and off-grid energy generation will dominate investments in Africa’s energy sector for years to come. This supports Camco’s long-standing strategy as renewables move from niche to mainstream.
The strong presence of investors – between them representing hundreds of billions of dollars – made the scarcity of quality projects and development capacity plain to see. At the same time, the limited number of high-quality developers generates a real need for Camco’s strong local origination capacity, as well as our ability to support the development process. Over the week, we saw significant interest in both the existing REPP portfolio companies, as well as for potential new projects.
Africa’s energy future is shifting rapidly away from the large, slow, expensive and polluting projects that have dominated the continent’s energy landscape for years. In their place, small, distributed, clean energy initiatives are on the rise, delivering impact where it is needed most and to the benefit of Africa as a whole.
The challenge for the investors now is finding efficient and scalable financing methods. As a fund manager focused on renewables and climate solutions in emerging markets, we have been working in this space for years. If you want to know more, get in touch!
