Camco to expand operations after signing two strategic hires
Two seasoned finance professionals joined Camco this month, expanding the reach and complementing the company’s diverse team of experts.
George Thara and Kristoffer Laurson have taken up positions as Investment Officer and Syndication Director, respectively.
George is based in Camco’s Nairobi office from where he assumes responsibility for originating and executing renewable projects within the East Africa region.
He brings with him over 10 years’ experience working in Africa’s energy sector, including having a leading role in a diverse range of projects with a total installed capacity in excess of 150MW. Prior to joining Camco he worked for LionWorks Capital, an investment firm dedicated to supporting Africa’s infrastructure.
Operating out of Camco’s London office, Kristoffer’s role includes fundraising and co-investments on portfolio companies, as well as refinancings and exits of equity investments.
Before moving to Camco, he helped build a solar home system venture in sub-Saharan Africa from inception to closing a US$10 million syndicated loan that will provide first-time clean energy access to tens of thousands of people. Kristoffer previously worked in corporate finance, capital markets and project finance with UBS, Nomura and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Camco’s Managing Director Geoff Sinclair said the team’s expansion reflected an exciting time in the company’s history, and that further recruits were planned for later in the year.
“Growing the team with these strategic hires will enable Camco to reach new geographies, expand the crowding in of new capital sources and enhance the delivery of the REPP mandate,” he said.
